Use Case: Active Picking in Oracle WMS Cloud

Objective

To demonstrate how Active Picking is performed in Oracle WMS Cloud, covering the setup of order, wave template, task execution, and shipment confirmation.

Pre-Requisites

  • Order type with Waving Enabled and Partial Allocation Allowed.

  • Item stored in Active Location (A111) with available on-hand quantity.

  • Cubing Rule and OB LPN Types preconfigured for cartonization.

Business Scenario

A customer order for item CM Medium Gym Bag needs to be picked from the active location, packed into an outbound LPN, and shipped from the facility.

Process Steps

1. Create and Review Customer Order

  • Navigate to Order Header and verify:

    • Customer name and address.

    • Order Type has “Waving” and “Partial Allocation Allowed.”

    • “Flow-through” disabled as this is a direct shipment.

  • Confirm Item Definition allows picking from both reserve and active locations.

  • Verify active inventory in A111 with sufficient quantity.

2. Review Wave Template

  • Open Wave Template → Active Picking.

  • Key configurations:

    • Allocation Mode: Pick from Active.

    • Cartonized UOM: Cubed (requires Cubing Rule).

    • Cubing Mode: Predefined OB LPN Type.

  • Select the largest available OB LPN Type (e.g., Data Box) for packing three units.

  • Define Cubing Rule per Order to pack all items in one box.

  • Task Type: Non-Cubed Picking — supports unit-level picking.

  • Break By Count: 2 (system creates a new task after every two locations).

3. Run Wave and Validate Allocation

  • Run the wave against the order.

  • Verify Allocation Type = Active Pick.

  • Generate Task Report:

    • Displays order details, location (A1), SKU barcode, and allocated quantity.

    • Can be used for scanning during picking.

4. Perform Picking in Mobile Application

  • Log into Mobile RF Application → Task Execution.

  • Enter task number from Task Report.

  • Since cubing rule not enabled, system prompts for a Blind OB LPN.

    • Generate blind OB LPN from LPN Screen and note it for scanning.

  • On task execution screen:

    • Scan Location (A111).

    • Enter or scan Item Barcode (if multiple items present).

    • Confirm Pick Quantity = 3.

    • End task → system updates task status from Allocated → Completed.

5. Outbound Loading and Shipping

  • Navigate to Outbound → Load Management.

  • Perform Load Check-In (optional) at DOCK04.

  • Select order and Load OB LPN using generated barcode.

  • Confirm loading and initiate Ship Load.

  • Verify status transitions:

    • Created → Loaded → Shipped.

Outcome

  • The system successfully completed Active Picking using the defined wave template and OB LPN setup.

  • Order status updated to Shipped, confirming end-to-end active picking and shipment process.

Key Takeaways

  • Active Picking leverages Active Locations for efficient order fulfillment.

  • Cubing Rules automate box selection and OB LPN creation.

  • Mobile RF Task Execution enables real-time scanning and task completion.

  • Proper setup of Wave Template ensures seamless task creation and allocation.
